Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper could return to the Premier League this summer, amid what appears to be a managerial merry go round.
Cooper was fired by the Reds last December, after more than two years in command. He has since been linked to a number of jobs but is still unemployed.
The end of the 2023/24 season has already resulted in some dugout departures, with speculation that more may follow. With that in mind, Cooper is rumored to be an option for Brentford if Thomas Frank leaves.
Frank is on Chelsea’s managerial shortlist to succeed Mauricio Pochettino, according to the Daily Mail. Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town and Enzo Maresca of Leicester City are also thought to be in the running for the post at Stamford Bridge.
Frank is claimed to be “keeping an open mind” about his future and “would be open” to moving to a larger club provided the working conditions are suitable. Chelsea are thought to want a new head coach in place by the beginning of June.
Cooper announced earlier this week that he had withdrawn from consideration for the Norwich City post. The Welshman was reportedly on the Canaries’ radar to replace David Wagner, who left after their unsuccessful play-off bid.
This summer could see a number of managerial changes across the divisions. Rumours continue that one could take place at the City Ground.
Nuno Espirito Santo, Cooper’s replacement at Forest, has been the subject of much conjecture. The Reds have been linked with former Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi and Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano, while Nuno’s situation is thought to be monitored by clubs in Portugal and Spain.
