Adam Pope, a BBC Sport correspondent, has suggested that Leeds United could sign Jaidon Anthony from Bournemouth permanently this summer.
Anthony spent 2023-24 on loan at Elland Road as part of a transaction that saw Luis Sinisterra move the other way to Bournemouth.
The 24-year-old had a disappointing season last time out, starting only two Championship games and scoring just one goal from wide before returning to the South Coast.
However, with Jack Harrison due to return to Everton for a second loan term and several other strikers linked with a move, he might be useful next season.
Pope, writing for BBC Sport’s Leeds transfer blog [19 June, 4:08pm], stated that Anthony is now way down the pecking order at Bournemouth and that an escape could make sense this summer.
Pope added: “With [Crysencio] Summerville expected to leave in the summer and Jack Harrison likely to renew his loan at Everton, how strong is the case for bringing the 24-year-old back on a permanent basis?”
“After a year of working with [Daniel] Farke, he understands his style and what is expected of him at the club.” Anthony has shown that he can go the distance in the championship.
“Anthony has pedigree, having spent a decade with Arsenal before joining Bournemouth in 2016.” He has a contract with the Cherries until 2027, but the right offer this summer may take his career and best years elsewhere.
Leeds United could benefit from a deal with Jaidon Anthony.
Anthony’s effect was limited in 2023-24, although Leeds had many of options in the final third. However, if Summerville leaves, there will be one less man in front of him should the winger return.
Whether Leeds should sign Anthony or not depends on who else leaves Elland Road this summer. If another attacker leaves, such as Gnonto, he might be a wise investment.
Some fans may be hesitant to get too excited about the possibilities, but he is a player Farke knows well and will take no time to settle in.
It should be noted that Anthony is technically a Premier League player, so he would still represent a coup in that aspect.
Leeds fans would love to keep Summerville and Gnonto, but if the worst-case scenario occurs and both depart, Anthony should definitely be considered.
