According to Adam Pope, Connor Roberts has emerged as Leeds United’s new cult hero following recent performances.
The BBC Radio Leeds journalist wrote on the BBC Sport website on Wednesday (13 March) that it is “incredible” how the Welsh international has been able to engage with the Whites fans so quickly, especially given that he has only started two of his eight outings for the club.
He said that the 28-year-old right-back’s loan move from Burnley to Elland Road in the January transfer window was a “astute move” on Daniel Farke’s part.
“Roberts has certainly endeared himself to Whites fans as well as the Red Wall (Wales fans),” he remarked. “He is establishing himself as a cult icon, and not simply because of his attractive appearance.

“It’s astonishing how a player can form an instant bond with a club and its fans, especially considering he’s only made two starts in eight games.
“But he already has one goal, one assist, a few bone-crushing tackles, and several swashbuckling runs to show for his all-action style.
“Roberts was an astute transfer window move for a seasoned combatant. “The type of guy who would have your back in both the trenches and the cockpit.”
Connor Roberts makes an impression for Leeds United.
There is no denying Roberts’ impact on the Leeds team over the last few games, having lately registered a goal and an assist.
While the right-back has had to wait patiently for his opportunity behind 17-year-old Archie Gray, he has handled himself wonderfully when others would have gotten frustrated.
But the Welshman is certain that his opportunities will arise, and when they do, he will seize them.
There is no guarantee that he will be able to secure a starting berth over the next few months, but Whites fans are certainly impressed with the defender’s performances.
He knows exactly what it takes to climb out of the Championship after being promoted with Burnley last season, and that knowledge could be useful in the coming weeks at Elland Road.
