Leeds United should trade Wilfried Gnonto this summer unless the club is “one million percent” confident he will stay for the long term.
Former Celtic and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie told Football Insider that the Championship team should sell the 20-year-old because it is a “good investment.”
According to Football Insider, Everton has made touch with the winger’s camp and is confident of clinching a deal.
Gnonto has personally approved the deal, and insiders indicate he is eager in moving to Goodison Park as progress is made in what are still early stages of negotiations.
The Merseyside club had a long-standing interest in Gnonto, but they were unable to buy him from Leeds last summer.
The attraction of playing Premier League football, however, may be too great after the Whites failed to regain promotion to the top division last season.
Leeds United should sell Wilfried Gnonto for ‘£25m’.
Gnonto has had a promising start to his football career, but the unpredictable nature of the game means his value might drastically fall in the future.
With the Whites currently able to demand at least £20 million for him, it may be time to cash in and reinvest the proceeds.
“It depends on what the situation at Leeds is,” McAvennie told Football Insider.
“I believe £20-25 million is a good investment for a 20-year-old lad because you have to realize that people can be harmed.
“£20-25 million is a terrific deal for anybody; it’s a great offer; until you’re 100 percent certain that he’ll be staying around for the next few years and taking them where they want to go, then you keep him.
“I would take it if you could get it because you can replace the young youngster, but you can’t always replace an experienced midfielder who has been around and can manage the game.
“Whereas the young boy, he’s not learned the game yet so maybe it’s maybe a good deal to move him on and bring some other people in.”
