‘Absolutely Not’: Don Goodman gives upgraded Leeds promotion verdict based on what he’s seen

Don Goodman believes Leeds United can finish the season unbeaten in their pursuit of promotion to the Premier League.

Since the turn of the year, the Whites have won 11 of their 12 Championship games while drawing one.

Leeds have bounced back from a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town with victories against Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Goodman sees no reason why Daniel Farke’s team cannot continue their current form till the end of the season.

“They rattled off nine wins in a row recently, predominantly against teams you’d expect them to beat, as well as a signature win against Leicester,” according to him.

“Then you look at where they could go wrong from here, but I’m looking now, and they have some good games against lower-level clubs coming up.

“They will be pushed in games, no doubt about it, but would it surprise me if they went unbeaten from now on? “Certainly not.”

Leeds United still have Millwall and Watford to face in March.

Leeds has come a long way from virtually out of the running for a top-two finish at the end of 2023 to now being favourites to join Leicester City in the Premier League.

The draw with Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield felt like the end of the world at the time, thanks to the sudden tightness at the top of the table.

Despite this extraordinary run, Farke will be fully aware that a defeat to Millwall next weekend, for example, and a win for Ipswich Town at home to Sheffield Wednesday, will change the situation completely.

On the surface, the fixture list appears to be quite favorable, but no opponent should be underestimated. Just ask Ipswich, who lost a lead against a Cardiff City team stuck in mid-table.

It may be a cliche, but between now and the final whistle on the final day of the season, it’s all about one game at a time.
