Jamie Carragher believes Leeds United will be promoted back to the Premier League this season after being relegated last year.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football on March 4, the commentator predicted that the Whites, Leicester City, and Southampton will all return to the top division immediately.
Despite conceding that Luton Town have been “absolutely fantastic” this season, he predicts them to be relegated alongside other promoted sides Sheffield United and Burnley.
“In all honesty, I think Luton have been absolutely fantastic this season because I feared that Luton would be doing exactly what Sheffield United and Burnley are doing,” Carragher told the BBC.
“For the bulk of the season, it’s almost as if we’ve had three Championship clubs in the Premier League and three Premier League clubs in the Championship.
“And I believe those three teams will return, whereas these three will most likely drop down. But kudos to Luton; I believe they’ve been terrific and will go well.”
Can Leeds United make a quick return to the Premier League?
There is no doubt that Leeds are well-positioned to return to the Premier League this season.
They had been in excellent form prior to the stalemate with Huddersfield Town on March 2, but their winning streak was bound to come to an end at some moment.
While it appeared that Leicester and Ipswich Town were racing away with promotion in the early months of the season, things have tightened at the top after the turn of the year.
The problem for the Premier League’s promoted teams this year is that none of them have had the financial resources to considerably enhance their rosters.
While Luton have put in some excellent performances, they remain in the relegation zone and appear to be on their way back down, with the Whites expecting to return to the top flight next season.
