Leeds United have been linked with re-signing Connor Roberts from Burnley following an unimpressive loan spell.
Leeds’ prospects of achieving promotion at the second attempt this season will rely heavily on consistency.
It’s why Joe Rodon’s permanent arrival is so vital, and his Welsh teammate Connor Roberts has also been linked with a return to LS11.
Connor Roberts linked to Leeds switch
Roberts arrived at Leeds and quickly established himself as a key element of the squad, reuniting with his Wales teammates and offering promotion experience to a team seeking to win.
His on-field performances fell short of expectations, with him struggling to make an impact save from a smart finish at home to Leicester and an assist the following week at Huddersfield, which was aided by an injury on international duty.
However, The Athletic revealed that the club is open to re-signing the right-back, who is in the final year of his Turf Moor contract this season.
Graham Smyth cools relations between Roberts and Leeds.
While there have been linkages, and there appears to be Elland Road enthusiasm in seeing Roberts return in a white strip, nothing is imminent.
According to Graham Smyth of the YEP, who recently spoke on the Inside Elland Road podcast about the Welshman:
“After speaking with a few people close to the club and the player, it does not appear like anything is imminent right now.
“Now, you have to caveat everything in the transfer window with subject to change because who knows, Scott Parker might actually decide no, he can go, but as it stands right now, there’s nothing imminent for Connor Roberts at Leeds United.”
Roberts would be a solid signing, but he is not necessary.
Roberts would be warmly welcomed back to Leeds following how well he adjusted to life away from the pitch and became an important member of the squad.
However, his footballing ability in that half-season was not up to par for what we require from a right-back in our team.
Farke’s team requires full-backs on each side to charge forward with enormous energy and force, which Roberts never displayed before or after his injury.
He’d be fantastic for our continuity, although there are better and worse possibilities available, to be fair.
