Jeff Stelling has confessed that he wonders how Leeds United supporters will react to fresh PSR developments at Leicester City.
The Foxes appear to have avoided a potential points deduction after the Premier League revealed (3 September) that an independent Appeal Board upheld their appeal against an alleged break of PSR.
Although the alleged financial infraction occurred while Steve Cooper’s team was in the Premier League, talkSPORT anchor Stelling has stated that Leeds fans may feel hard done by following the latest update.
On talkSPORT on Wednesday (4 September, 8:10), he stated that Leicester City had effectively won their appeal over an alleged infraction of profitability and sustainability standards.
“The appeal board’s ruling effectively kills their chances of receiving a points deduction this season.
“I wonder how and I’m not saying it is the same situation, but I wonder how fans of Nottingham Forest for example or Leeds United or Everton are going to feel about this.”
Have Leeds United complied with PSR after summer transfer window at Elland Road?
While a points deduction for Leicester City this season would not have had a significant impact on Leeds, the new additions at the King Power Stadium will cause some frustration around Elland Road.
Daniel Farke’s team was compelled to sell Archie Gray early in the summer transfer window in order to comply with financial fair play regulations, but other clubs appear to be able to spend freely without fear of repercussions.
While it should come as no surprise to fans that the football world is not being handled equally, it is upsetting for them to see what looks to be a double standard when it comes to punishment.
Of course, we don’t know the specifics of Leicester’s scenario or how it compares to teams such as Nottingham Forest, Everton, and the Whites. However, there appears to be little consistency.
Hopefully, a better solution will be developed sooner rather than later, as the current PSR strategy has not worked as well as it should.
