Leeds United will fly Isaac Schmidt to the UK on Transfer Deadline Day to finalize a deal, according to Graham Smyth.
According to a Yorkshire Evening Post writer via X late on August 29, the Swiss full-back is scheduled to come in the country on the final day to join Ao Tanaka at the club.
Before leaving to conclude a deal with the Whites, the FC St. Gallen star had to play a Europa Conference League play-off game.
Smyth wrote: “The Leeds United deal for Ao Tanaka will be revealed tomorrow, but it appears to be completed. Isaac Schmidt will fly over in the morning.
“And then we’ll see if they can deliver anything else to finish a difficult window on a real high note.”
Leeds United set to add the final two Daniel Farke transfer requests.
After Georginio Rutter became the last of the high-profile departures this summer and joined Brighton, Daniel Farke needed four acquisitions to give him the weaponry to contend for promotion [The Athletic, 16 August].
Largie Ramazani was immediately obtained from Almeria to replace Crysencio Summerville as the top priority [Fabrizio Romano, 26 August], while Manor Solomon’s loan from Tottenham, which survived a Dutch hijacking attempt [Romano, 27 August], was the second attacking acquisition.
If Tanaka is now going to be declared as the manager’s preferred midfielder following Glen Kamara’s sale to Rennes, Schmidt will round up his wish list at full back.
It appeared that Bournemouth defender Max Aarons will return to Elland Road at the second attempt [Yorkshire Evening Post, 26 August], after coming in for a medical last year before his contract was hijacked.
Schmidt, 24, has attracted late interest since he can play on both sides of the back four as well as further forward on the flanks and in midfield.
Farke’s adaptability may have won the deal in his favour, with a permanent contract for €3 million [£2.52 million] with add-ons planned [Patrick Berger, 29 August].
