The transfer window is closing, but Nottingham Forest is still racing against the clock to sign a highly sought-after striker.

Nuno Espirito Santo wants to add more firepower to his team, as Chris Wood becomes older and Taiwo Awoniyi struggles with fitness.

According to David Ornstein, Eddie Nketiah is on Forest’s shortlist, with the Arsenal player seen as the top target.

However, Graeme Bailey told us exclusively that Santiago Gimenez was Forest’s primary priority, and additional information about him has emerged.

Santiago Gimenez makes the Nottingham Forest choice.

It appears that Forest is in for some terrible news, at least for now.

According to VI in Holland, Gimenez would prefer to spend another year at Feyenoord and is unconcerned about a move to Forest.

According to the article, he is unconcerned about leaving the Rotterdam-based business this summer.

Forest made a first bid of £21 million for Gimenez, which is significantly less than Feyenoord’s current valuation.

They are looking to reclaim around £30 million, and the Reds will need to boost the ante significantly if a deal is to be pushed.

Even still, in light of this news, Forest may be looking to sign a player who has little interest in relocating to Nottingham this summer.

Forest will have additional irons in the fire.

Gimenez isn’t the only striker being associated with Forest, and Nketiah may be the fallback choice.

There will be other names on the list, though, as Forest takes a careful approach to recruitment this season.

Gimenez appears to have said no for now, but if Forest ups the ante and returns with a greater bid, this might turn into a poker game.

The Mexican will understand that he must exercise caution while expressing his desire to leave Feyenoord because there is no guarantee that another team will match his valuation.

If he preaches about wanting to leave but then fails to do so, he will face criticism from Feyenoord fans.

The final ten days of the transfer window promise to be eventful, and Forest hopes to complete the signing of a much-needed striker before the window closes.
