Alex Moreno appears to be open for a move this summer, with Unai Emery fully equipped at left-back following the £37.5 million signing of Ian Maatsen from Chelsea.
Nottingham Forest are considering a loan transfer for Aston Villa full-back Alex Moreno.
Forest have been aiming to reinforce their left-back position this summer, and Moreno is the latest candidate to emerge. The Athletic reports that Villa are aware of Forest’s interest in the Spaniard, and that the player is considering his alternatives. Villa manager Unai Emery said Moreno was likely to depart the club following his team’s 2-1 victory over West Ham last night.
Villa are happy to let him go after buying Ian Maatsen from Chelsea for £37.5 million this summer, and Lucas Digne appears unlikely to depart, leaving them with plenty of left-back options.
However, Emery’s comments do not imply that the City Ground is Moreno’s likely destination. Other parties rumored to be interested in Moreno include Besiktas, Galatasaray, Nice, Villarreal, and his former club, Real Betis.
He made 29 appearances for Villa last season, including 11 starts in the Premier League as they finished fourth and three more in the Europa Conference League quarterfinals. He’s been at Villa for about 18 months after joining for £13 million from Betis in January 2023.
Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo started the Premier League against Bournemouth with Ola Aina on the left side of a four-man defence. The Nigerian concluded the season as Forest’s regular starter in the position, having previously played right-back.
