Liverpool kick off their 2024/25 Premier League season with an away encounter against Ipswich Town.
It’s never easy to face a newly promoted side in the first game of the season, especially away from home, but the Reds must win.
There is a lot of anticipation for what Arne Slot will do in his debut season at Anfield, and early signs are quite promising.
However, the main problem is that Liverpool has yet to sign a single player in this summer’s transfer window, which could have an impact on where they finish in the following season.
Gary Lineker predicts Liverpool’s final league position for 2024/25.
In the newest episode of the Rest is Football podcast, Gary Lineker, Micah Richards, and Alan Shearer forecast Liverpool’s Premier League finish this season.
The Merseysiders were well and firmly in the title fight during Jurgen Klopp’s final season at the club, and they even appeared like they may win it at one stage.
However, results did not go their way in the final two months of the season, and they finished third overall, trailing Manchester City and Arsenal.
The Reds still have a strong roster, but they have not upgraded it yet.
Liverpool still needs a new number six to have the best chance of success this season, but it doesn’t appear that anyone will be signing.
Despite this, Richards and Shearer are both certain that the Reds will keep their Premier League place and finish third again.
However, Lineker believes they will slip a position.
He stated, “I’m going to go one down, fourth! I believe it would be impossible for them following Jurgen Klopp. I really do. I suppose they’ll just receive a Champions League spot.
“I just don’t see how someone can be that powerful at a club for so long that anyone comes in would find it impossible.
“I hope I’m wrong; he seems like a fantastic man, and as you mentioned, they’ve done well in preseason. But fourth for me.”
Liverpool has not helped Arne Slot
It is always critical for any club to support their manager, particularly a new one. Liverpool has not done so this summer for several reasons.
The Reds have yet to make a single signing in this window, and it does not appear that they are close to bringing in anyone who will aid them in the coming season.
That puts Slot in a really difficult position. Replacing Klopp is a tremendous task in and of itself, but for him to do it without assistance from the market does not seem fair.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have looked good under Slot in preseason, and if they can keep up their form, they should be able to finish in the top four.
That, in our opinion, would result in a successful debut season for the new Liverpool manager.
