Andy Hinchcliffe blasted Pascal Struijk’s defensive performance for Leeds United in their 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough.
The Whites were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in disappointing circumstances against Michael Carrick’s side at Elland Road.
The defensive performance, particularly in the second half, was so awful that Hinchcliffe singled out Struijk on Sky Sports Main Event (14 August, 09:27pm).
He said: “All over the place defensively, Isiah Jones picks off Struijk, who is caught ball watching, and the ball falls kindly for Coburn.”
“Ampadu is caught on his heels, Leeds have been defensively quite awful.”
Pascal Struijk slammed for Leeds United showing v Middlesbrough
Leeds United’s performance against Middlesbrough resulted in defeat and elimination from the League Cup. Boro scored three goals in a row.
The first half was more encouraging, with both teams trying to figure each other out, but neither was successful in the first 45 minutes.
As Leeds pushed for the opening goal, they left themselves vulnerable at the back, allowing Carrick’s side to expose the defence and take their chances.
Struijk was bad in terms of goals, although he was not assisted by others ahead of him, as the midfield was overrun at times.
The Dutchman has played in the first two games at Elland Road, where he has seen six goals scored against him.
Farke needs to make a change because Leeds cannot afford to concede so many goals on a regular basis if they are to succeed.
Being eliminated from the Carabao Cup may be a godsend, but the performance was cause for concern.
