A round-up of the latest Liverpool news, including the Reds’ £39 million target and Gary Neville’s explanation for why Martin Zubimendi turned down a trade from Real Sociedad.
Liverpool are certain that Saudi Pro League target Alisson Becker is ‘going nowhere’.
Liverpool are making it clear that Alisson Becker is ‘going nowhere’ in the summer transfer market, despite interest from the Saudi Pro League. According to David Lynch, Anfield chiefs are convinced that the Brazilian will stay on Merseyside.
Despite the fact that Alisson is under contract with Liverpool until 2027, Saudi Arabian officials consider him one of the top priorities for improving the Pro League. The 31-year-old is one of the world’s best goalkeepers, with shot-stopping abilities and game-changing responses.
Alisson’s minutes were decreased last season due to injuries, but the Novo Hamburgo native is still Liverpool’s number one. He played only 28 Premier League games last season, keeping eight clean sheets, making it only the second time in his Reds career that he played fewer than 33.

Liverpool offers Giorgi Mamardashvili a ten-year plan to ensure his transfer.
Liverpool have provided Giorgi Mamardashvili with a 10-year plan for his future at Anfield, as the Reds look to sign the goalkeeper from Valencia. According to Levante EMV, Anfield has made an initial offer of just about €30 million (£26 million).
The Merseyside locals’ offer included potential future add-ons and failed to persuade Valencia to sell. Los Che estimate Mamardashvili is worth €45 million (£39 million) following his performance at Euro 2024. However, a new offer is in the works, with Liverpool eyeing Mamardashvili to replace Alisson.
Convincing Mamardashvili to join Liverpool will be considerably easier, as the club has enticed the Georgia international with long-term contract offers. The Reds also aim to give him a loan in the Premier League to become used to the competition before replacing Alisson.

Gary Neville believes Martin Zubimendi made a U-turn on Liverpool
Gary Neville feels Martin Zubimendi made a U-turn after assuring Liverpool he would consent to a transfer from Real Sociedad. The Manchester United star also feels that FC Barcelona or Real Madrid communicated with the Spaniard and talked him out of joining Liverpool.
Liverpool became increasingly confident in their chances of persuading Zubimendi to quit Real Sociedad this summer. However, after progressing in negotiations with the Euro 2024 winner, the contract fell through, and Zubimendi is now scheduled to remain at the Anoeta Stadium for another year.
Zubimendi has spent his whole career at Real Sociedad, having graduated from the academy. He is also one of Europe’s best holding midfielders, so signing the 25-year-old would have been a major coup for Liverpool. However, Neville now believes the Reds have had the rug pulled from under them.
“For this to have happened to Liverpool, he has said yes to them and then changed his mind late,” Neville told the Stick to Football podcast. “There’s no way – we’ve been there at different levels, and he’s obviously said yes to them before changing his mind.
“I never trust Barcelona or Real Madrid to be involved in something and say, ‘We’re coming, we’re not ready yet, but we’ll take you. That is always over there, and if they come, you’re dead.”
