Leeds United agreed to sell Crysencio Summerville to West Ham for a reported £25 million up front, plus add-ons.
Leeds still have a lot of work to do in the transfer market before the season closes on August 30, including finding a means to adequately replace two key outgoings.
Crysencio Summerville followed Archie Gray to the Premier League, signing a long-term agreement with West Ham.
West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville transfer details have been released.
It was revealed earlier in August that West Ham had finalized the transfer of Summerville from Leeds, which was concerning due to a release clause in the winger’s contract.
Sean Whetstone has stated that Leeds will get an initial fee of £25 million, with hefty add-ons based on numerous factors:
Leeds might receive an additional £5 million in performance-related bonuses, and international recognition for the Netherlands U21 player would provide another boost to the 49ers.
Leeds could be prepared to trigger add-ons quite soon in Summerville’s deal.
The difficulty with add-ons rather than a higher base cost is that they are not guaranteed to be triggered.
However, Leeds should be optimistic that their former winger will be able to achieve the standards of these provisions in a timely manner.
The most notable is that Leeds would be in line for a decent payoff if Summerville is called up to the Netherlands senior team, which he won’t be far from after his return to the Premier League, especially given the turgid state of Ronald Koeman’s attack in Euro 2024, which is in desperate need of a refresh.
Summerville’s first international appearance might come as early as September, giving Leeds just a month to prepare for the first add-on opportunity.
As for the rest of the winger’s additions to his own performance, he appears to be one component of Julen Lopetegui’s massive summer window thus far, contributing to the Irons’ return to European play after significantly improving their roster.
If he hits the ground running, Leeds could see a lot more than £25 million in this year’s PSR calculations.
