Norwich make a last-ditch push to beat Leeds to the signing after Elland Road approach – report

According to Edmund Brack, Leeds United will face late competition from Norwich City to capture Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

The South London Press journalist reported on X (11 August) that when Jonathan Rowe pulled out of the matchday squad to face Oxford, Norwich made a late attempt to sign Rak-Sakyi from Palace.

United reportedly made a £15 million deal for the 21-year-old winger [Alan Nixon, 11 August], but it was rejected by the Premier League club, with Burnley also increasing their interest.

Rak-Sakyi and Rowe have emerged as the Whites’ two main transfer targets in recent days, with a £7 million bid for the latter submitted to Norwich [John Percy, 5 August], who have now joined them in the hunt for Rak-Sakyi.

Leeds United are unsure whether to sign Rowe or Rak-Sakyi to replace Crysencio Summerville, who made significant contributions last season.

Summerville was the Championship Player of the Year last season with 20 goals and nine assists, and duplicating that output will be difficult now that the Dutchman has joined West Ham for £25 million.

Rak-Sakyi, in particular, has sparked interest from numerous Championship clubs this summer, and despite Sheffield United appearing to have completed a loan deal [Nixon, 7 August], the 21-year-old has yet to depart.

Rowe, on the other hand, is a player Daniel Farke knows from his time at Norwich, but with the Whites still to improve on their rejected £7 million bid, the German’s priorities appear clear.

Wilfried Gnonto’s equalising goal against Portsmouth on August 10 brought back memories of Summerville’s hallmark strike last season, but United still need more on the flanks, and Rak-Sakyi might be the answer.
