Feyenoord manager issues Santiago Gimenez’s transfer update amid Nottingham Forest links

The new Feyenoord manager will be eager to keep hold of his star player, although Forest are anticipated to increase their interest this week.

Brian Priske, Feyenoord’s manager, has been tight-lipped about Santiago Gimenez’s future following the club’s Eredivisie fixture yesterday.

The striker, who was born in Argentina and now plays for Mexico, has 38 goals in 68 top-flight games since moving from Cruz Azul to Rotterdam in 2022.

As reported by Nottinghamshire Live on Saturday, new developments are expected in the coming days, but the Feyenoord manager, who replaced Arne Slot, who departed for Liverpool, remained cautious when asked about transfers. He stated, “When it comes to transfers, after a game, I don’t like to talk about who is leaving and who is coming in.” It’s always a challenge to complete the squad during such a long transfer window and with a new coach.

The attacker appeared in his team’s 1-1 tie with Willem II in the first weekend of the Eredivisie, recording an assist in 73 minutes on the pitch.

If he joins the Reds, he will very certainly fit right into Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans; Chris Wood has played the majority of the pre-season games, but Gimenez might give the cutting edge that Forest needed in attack for much of the season.

Forest have signed six players, with midfielder Elliot Anderson from Newcastle United being the standout addition that will thrill fans. On Saturday, August 17, the Reds meet Bournemouth at the City Ground, who will be missing Dominic Solanke following his Spurs departure.
