According to The Sun, Leeds United are unlikely to sign Jonathan Rowe to Marseille after bidding £7 million for the forward.
The newspaper reported on August 9 (page 51) that the French club is close to agreeing an £8 million deal with Norwich City for the 21-year-old.
The Whites only bid £7 million for the England Under-21 international, and they appear to have lost out to the Ligue 1 giants.
Leeds United miss out on Jonathan Rowe.
Daniel Farke will be disappointed if he fails to sign the winger, especially after losing Crysencio Summerville to West Ham.
A new winger is needed at Elland Road to compete with Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto in the coming season.
Rowe may have been the ideal acquisition for the Whites, but the sum appears to be too high for them to pay.
Fans will be frustrated that Leeds appear to be losing out to Marseille by only £1 million, but the leadership clearly has a budget in mind.
A deal for Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has also fallen through, and with the Championship opener against Portsmouth coming up, the Whites must make fresh signings swiftly.
Signing the Crystal Palace starlet or Rowe could have been a great commercial decision, but Farke and Co. must now consider other options.
