Liverpool will receive a call from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, who want to recruit a £25 million player from Liverpool.
Sky According to Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, at least six Bundesliga clubs are interested in signing Sepp van den Berg this summer. He mentions that Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg, Mainz, and Borussia Monchengladbach are interested in the Dutchman.
The biggest name, however, is Bayer Leverkusen. The German champions are also reportedly interested in Van den Berg, but Liverpool’s asking price is proving to be a roadblock.
The Reds want up to £25 million for the defender, and all of this competition may well help them get it.
“Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg, Mainz, M’gladbach and Leverkusen are/were all keen to sign Sepp van den Berg,” reports Plettenberg. “Some teams made concrete bids to Liverpool for the 22-year-old defender, but all were rejected.
“Some teams are still hoping for a loan (Mainz).” However, LFC is asking for £20-25 million for him at this point, and they have been really pleased with his recent performances.
“The future remains open. There is no decision yet. Contract is good until 2026.”
Sepp Van Den Berg’s Future
Van den Berg is sought after by clubs outside of Germany. PSV Eindhoven has been heavily linked with the player, and they were again on Thursday.
There was a delay in any talks for Van den Berg since Liverpool needed him for their tour of the United States, but now that he is back, things are likely to proceed fast. This could lead to PSV selling a player in order to match Liverpool’s asking price.
However, Leverkusen’s involvement may change everything. If they are willing to offer Van den Berg regular football, their offer will take precedence over everyone else’s and may influence the outcome.
Van den Berg impressed while on loan in Germany last season. That is now apparent as day, with Bundesliga clubs rushing up to sign him.
