Everton has shown a keen interest in Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto throughout the summer transfer window, but Sean Dyche’s recent statements are good news for the 49ers.
Leeds’ chances of promotion this season are dependent on how they respond to huge sales in the summer window, with two players from last season now gone.
After selling Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville, fans are hoping that the club will be in a better position to keep other key figures.
Sean Dyche’s Everton admission had a huge impact on Willy Gnonto.
Everton’s interest in Willy Gnonto is long-standing, as the club attempted to sign the winger in August 2023 but was turned down by the 49ers.
According to Fabrizio Romano, that has returned this summer, coupled with Sean Dyche’s outstanding work to enhance his squad overall.
However, the Toffees’ manager has revealed that additional expenditure after their latest £16.4 million deal for centre-back Jake O’Brien may not be possible until something happens at the club, as he told the Liverpool Echo this week:
“We are doing our best with the funds available to build what we believe will be a team that can continue to improve, and the addition of some of these players is a proof of that.
“But it is a squad that we want to grow, and while it is currently stretched, once they come together, they will all be a part of it. I don’t believe there will be any more signings with the funds we have, or do not have, as the case may be. But we’ll have to wait and see!”
Dyche has just given Leeds a massive Gnonto boost.
Of course, a manager like Dyche isn’t going to come out of a press conference bragging about his money, but he is clearly moderating expectations at Goodison Park.
They are notoriously in a bad financial situation right now due to debt accumulation and a failed acquisition, so bankrolling a major summer spending spree with Gnonto at the helm is implausible.
This statement by Dyche bodes well for Leeds’ hopes of keeping the Italian, since a Premier League team may be the only one capable of reaching our current asking price.
If Everton is actually out of the picture, as Dyche’s words indicate, Gnonto has a very good chance of remaining put.
