Liverpool are the only Premier League club yet to sign a senior player during the summer transfer season, as Arne Slot works with the possibilities at his disposal.
The Dutchman has already made a significant impression and has led Liverpool to three pre-season matches in the United States without a loss.
Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip left the club after their contracts expired at the end of last season, and Adrian San Miguel turned down an extension from the Reds in preference of a return to Spain with Real Betis.
More departures are expected this summer, with a few marginal players and youngsters expected to leave permanently or on loan.
Liverpool has kept possible incomings under wraps thus far, but things could be simmering behind the scenes.
Anthony Gordon was connected with a £75 million move to Liverpool, but Newcastle United put the brakes on the transaction after making a few other sales to comply with PSR laws.
The Reds have also been connected with promising Argentina left-back Julio Soler, although the club is also apparently interested in Marc Guehi, who impressed for England at Euro 2024.
Liverpool could move ahead with Marc Guehi’s interest before the transfer deadline
The 24-year-old is a household name in the Premier League, having improved his reputation with a string of assured performances at the back for the Three Lions as Gareth Southgate’s side lost to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
According to Caught Offside, Guehi is ‘impressed’ by Liverpool’s interest in him, with Newcastle also reportedly interested in signing him.
Guehi will reportedly cost Liverpool £65m this summer but it remains to be seen if the Reds press ahead with their interest.
At the moment, Liverpool are well-stacked at the heart of the defence with Virgil van Dijk, Jarell Quansah, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Sepp van den Berg, but with the latter two linked with transfers, the situation could change in the coming months.
Liverpool agreed a £45m deal to sell Gomez to Newcastle when they were locked in talks for Gordon, but it didn’t come to fruition. Van den Berg has participated in pre-season and made a strong impression, but the Dutchman is not short of suitors and could decide to go on if he’s not promised regular minutes.
Guehi is undoubtedly a player Liverpool admire, but whether or not they strengthen their interest will depend on prospective outgoings.
