After missing out on promotion to the Premier League, Leeds United fans will have felt compelled to accept Crysencio Summerville’s departure.
The 22-year-old Dutchman was named Championship Player of the Season after scoring 19 goals and providing nine assists in 43 games, virtually propelling the Whites out of the second tier.
However, after being relegated to a second consecutive season outside of the Premier League, Archie Gray and Glen Kamara have already found other homes, and Summerville appears to be the next exodus.
According to Florian Plettenberg, the Leeds winger is poised to sign a deal with West Ham United on Saturday, August 3, for a cost estimated to be between £20 million and £25 million.
While the news of the player’s departure has come as little surprise at Elland Road, the price tag is sure to raise a few eyebrows and should result in some fury directed at the 49ers for their stupid decision.
49ers poised to face the wrath of Leeds United fans following Crysencio Summerville upgrade.
Gray’s £30 million move to Tottenham earlier this summer [BBC Sport] had fans expecting a considerably bigger pay for the Championship’s top player last season.
According to talkSPORT [30 July], Leeds were holding out for a cost closer to £40 million, which would have been a much more reasonable price for Summerville’s departure this summer.
West Ham fans are well aware of the low price they are set to pay for the Leeds winger, and the club’s technical director, Tim Steidten, has already received high praise.
The 49ers, on the other hand, will not receive the same reaction from die-hard Elland Road fans, given that they stated that they could dictate what clubs would pay for their players following Gray’s sale.
While the deal is anticipated to include several potential add-ons, the final sum will be far less than what fans expected for the player when Daniel Farke’s team nearly missed promotion.
The Whites had every right to be outraged over the stupid judgment made at Elland Road.
