Helder Costa’s contract with Leeds United was terminated early in the 23/24 season, and he has since found a new team, Liga Portugal’s Estoril Praia.
This summer, the Whites have done a good job of clearing out periphery players with little future at Elland Road.
Since the 49ers acquired the team, the playing roster has undergone significant changes, and many players are now free agents looking for new homes.
Helder Costa signs with a new team months after leaving Leeds
Helder Costa endured a number of lackluster loans as it was clear his future lay elsewhere before being fired by Leeds just one year after agreeing to a permanent deal to join from Wolves for £16 million in 2020.
His contract was terminated in October 2023, therefore it wasn’t shocking when he was later released by the Whites in the 23–24 season, training away from Daniel Farke’s core group of players.
After his Elland Road contract was terminated ten months ago, he is now officially back in club action. Estoril Praia of Liga Portugal has confirmed his signing for a one-year contract.
Joel Robles, who formerly played for Al Quadsiah in Saudi Arabia, has also signed for Estoril, thus he is not the only former Leeds player at the team.
Costa might return to his peak for a new team in Portugal.
Costa’s decision to return to Portugal made sense after his injuries in England hindered his prospects at Leeds, despite his early impressive performance at Wolves.
It’s a signing that, considering the money we paid, is best forgotten about because it ultimately didn’t work out for Leeds.
Costa is a good winger; he simply seldom ever displayed it at Leeds. Hopefully, he finds his form again.
