Vaclav Cerny is on the verge of joining Rangers on loan, despite interest from Leeds United, according to iSport.
On July 25, the Czech site said that the 26-year-old Wolfsburg winger has already completed a medical ahead of a move to Ibrox, turning down United and LaLiga side Las Palmas in the process.
Daniel Farke’s team was apparently interested in both Cerny and his compatriot Adam Hlozek [Sunday Mirror, 23 June], but did not want to pay the former’s full wage if he was brought in on loan from his Bundesliga club.
Leeds United could be forced to wait for transfers out wide.
Going into the current Championship season, the Whites have arguably the best plethora of wingers in the league, and Cerny would have added to those choices if he hadn’t chosen to join Rangers.
With Wilfried Gnonto, Daniel James, and Championship Player of the Year Crysencio Summerville at their disposal, United have three players with Premier League experience, let alone in the second division.
However, with both Gnonto and Summerville expected to go this summer, a signing of Cerny’s profile and quality could have served as a suitable substitute.
With any sum for Summerville, in particular, set to exceed £30 million, the Whites will have money to spend if and when they look for a new left-winger.
Gnonto might also fetch more than £20 million [TEAMtalk, 15 July], and if Farke wants to ensure his side doesn’t miss out on the pair’s dozens of goal contributions, he may have to enter a competitive market for top-tier international wingers.
