Last Friday, Nottingham Forest permitted Esapa Osong to sign a season-long loan with League One club Rotherham United.
Steve Evans has high hopes for his second tenure with the Millers and has signed a number of appealing third-tier players this summer.
Osong is an intriguing prospect for Rotherham, despite his lack of experience in the men’s game.
Nothing against the gifted forward, but it was expected that he would go on loan this summer to a side worse off than Rotherham.
The Millers have great aspirations for promotion back to the Championship, which makes this move for Forest star Osong look quite promising.
After the outstanding youngster checked in at the club, Evans revealed how long he has been pursuing him and why he chose to take him to the New York Stadium.
What Steve Evans has said about Forest jewel Esapa Osong
Rotherham has given the 19-year-old a golden opportunity, which he will try to seize.
After driving him to South Yorkshire, Evans revealed how long he has been pursuing the academy graduate.
He’s also explained why he signed him and what he believes would be his best qualities on the field.
He told the club’s official website: “I’d want to thank Nottingham Forest, particularly Nuno Espirito Santo and Ross Wilson, for assisting us in signing such a highly regarded player as Esapa Osong.
“This has been a three-month process, and we have had to be very patient, but the effort will be worthwhile.
“A striker who scores a goal is hard to get at any time and one who works so hard for the team is very rare, we have that with Esapa.”
Esapa Osong has a promising future at Forest.
The striker has scored vital goals for the City Ground’s under-18 and under-21 squads, as well as the B-Team last season.
He was vital in the Reds reaching the FA Youth Cup final during the 2021/22 season, where they were defeated by Manchester United.
Osong is speedy, powerful, and has a keen eye for goal, which will only aid Rotherham this season.
The challenge for Osong will be to demonstrate his ability to swiftly catch up and play men’s football on a regular basis.
