Phil Hay believes that Leeds United’s promotion push has been boosted significantly by the addition of Jayden Bogle.
Leeds United paid £5 million to buy Jayden Boyle from Sheffield United over the weekend.
Phil Hay stated in a recent opinion piece (The Athletic, 22 July) that he believes Leeds made the correct decision.
“Finally, a transfer from the Championship. Leeds United have paid Sheffield United £5 million for Jayden Bogle. It offers them as fine a right-back as you’ll find in England’s second division, and it boosts their already strong promotion hopes.
Leeds United seeks greatness.
Following the devastation of their play-off final defeat last season, Leeds United needed to make changes, which they have. They’ve already raised more than £70 million from the sales of players such as Archie Gray, Glen Kamara, and Luis Sinisterra, and they can now consider reinvesting for the future.
Boyle has two years of Premier League experience and four years of high-level Championship football. There will be fans of other teams who believe he should have signed for a top-flight club, but as he approaches the age of 24, he still has plenty of time to work his way back.
Leeds are currently the favourites to win the league, according to many analysts and bookmakers. While you can’t sign off on that before the season even starts, they surely have the time and money to make an even bigger impression in the transfer market this summer.
