Following Leeds United’s pre-season friendly win against Harrogate Town, Daniel Farke provided an update on Max Wober’s future with the club.
In their first game of the summer, the Whites defeated North Yorkshire 3-0 thanks to goals from Junior Firpo, Georginio Rutter, and Sam Chambers.
Wober, unlike Brenden Aaronson, did not attend the game, raising further questions about his future plans for the coming season.
Wober spent last season on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, but they have been unable to match Leeds’ asking price for a permanent deal.
No other club has yet stepped forward, putting Wober in limbo and facing a major decision with Farke.
Farke provides a new update on Wober at Leeds
Farke had been considering bringing back both Wober and Rasmus Kristensen, but the latter chose to join Eintracht Frankfurt.
Wober declared before Euro 2024 that he had no idea what his future contained, but confirming throughout the tournament that negotiations would begin after he was out.
Wober has been away for two and a half weeks, which is slightly less than Aaronson.
Farke was approached by BBC Radio Leeds to provide an update on Wober’s future following Friday night’s victory at Harrogate.
The Leeds manager confirmed Wober’s return for testing today and intimated that he has a future at Elland Road for the forthcoming season.
He remarked, “First and foremost, we’ll have the boys back, including Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober. This will be advantageous to us.
“Max will arrive tomorrow and begin some testing. Hopefully, starting Sunday, we’ll be in the first team on the pitch. It is critical to have these guys back.”
Wober could suit Leeds’ new shape from last night.
One thing we discovered last night is that Farke may be open to a formation change after starting with a back five/three.
Junior Firpo and Dan James were able to play as wing-backs, while Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, and James Debayo defended in the centre in the first half.
Wober’s skill set might be ideal for that position, contributing to an already impressive defense at this level.
Jayden Bogle is close to joining Leeds and would play right-wing-back, with Firpo on the other flank if he remains, giving him even more freedom to move forward.
Rodon, Wober, and Pascal Struijk would be the three defenders, and with Ethan Ampadu protecting them slightly in front, Leeds would not concede many goals.
