Keith Wyness, Everton’s former manager, has stated that there is already plenty of transfer activity behind the scenes at Liverpool as Michael Edwards and Arne Slot plan a late-season recruiting spree.
Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs, believes the duo will make the right decisions and that there is still plenty of time to bring in new signings.
Liverpool are failed to make any fresh signings this summer after selecting Slot as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.
Meanwhile, Edwards has recently returned to Anfield after being named chief executive of Fenway Sports Group’s football division.
Liverpool executives will make the correct judgments on new signings.
Wyness believes it is critical that Slot has taken the time to analyze the situation behind the scenes before making any quick decisions about his squad.
He said on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, “I didn’t anticipate them to dive headfirst into the market.
“I believe Arne Slot needed time to come in and evaluate things before the internal talks could begin.
“There is plenty of time remaining in the market. There is roughly another six weeks to go.
“I think they’ll make decisions when they need to. Make no mistake: there will already be talks in many sectors.
“The media is frequently incorrect about what will actually happen, and many debates are taking place behind the scenes that are unknown to the public. Things are and will be happening.
“There will have been movements and other activities.
“But I believe that bringing Slot in and giving him some time to stabilize is the appropriate thing. You do not want to make rushed decisions because you will have to live with the consequences for a long time.
“I have high regard for Michael Edwards. “I believe they will make the right decisions at the right time.”
