Leeds United might face a five-way transfer war for a highly sought-after attacker this summer.
The Whites, Celtic, Ipswich Town, West Ham, and Everton have all been ‘charged with an interest’ in signing one of England’s most prolific performers over the last year.
Marquee reinforcements to their front line are expected to be high on the agenda at Elland Road in the coming weeks, as talk about their big-name players grows.
Rennes, Chelsea, and a number of other clubs are interested in Crysencio Summerville, while his best pal Wilfried Gnonto is also involved in a 10-way trade battle.
Losing both in the same summer would be a crushing loss for Leeds, who scored a total of 27 goals in the Championship last season.
Leeds interested in signing Sammie Szmodics
Summerville’s all-around game at this level will be quite impossible to replace, and Leeds may need to bring in numerous attackers to compensate for his departure.
Not only will his pace and dribbling be replaced, but more crucially, his goals, since he scored 19 in the 2023/24 season, earning the Championship POTS.
However, Blackburn Rovers’ Sammie Szmodics, who scored 27 goals last season, could fill the vacuum created by his departure.
Darragh MacAnthony, the owner of Peterborough United, has urged Leeds to complete a deal for Szmodics, and Planet Sport reports that the club is intrigued.
Leeds will compete with Celtic, West Ham, Ipswich, and Everton for the 28-year-old, who Blackburn values at £15 million, according to the Sun.
Any deal, however, is likely to be contingent on the conclusion of contract negotiations with Blackburn, and if he becomes available, Leeds would face stiff competition from other top-flight clubs.
Szmodics makes the Summerville claim amid Leeds interest.
Summerville was the best player in the Championship last season, and Szmodics admits as much.
In a video posted on X by YouTuber Still Ryan, Szmodics was requested to pound the presenter with a boxing glove when he heard the name of a better player, which included Joel Piroe, Summerville, Adam Armstrong, and others.
While Szmodics believes he is a better player than Piroe, he responded very differently to Summerville.
He stated: “Great player. “Ten times better than me.”
