Chuba Akpom has been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest this summer, as the Reds aim to add some firepower.
The Reds must ensure that their team is well-stocked, and competition for Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi is essential.
It was stated earlier today that Awoniyi will not travel to Spain with Forest due to a personal situation at home.
Even if Awoniyi and Wood are healthy and firing, Forest might yet add another striker to the squad, with Akpom among those connected with the City Ground.
Following the new allegations, Akpom has been questioned about his future, and he has made comments implying that he may be enticed to quit Ajax.
Chuba Akpom discusses his future after signing with Nottingham Forest.
Akpom had played for the Reds as a youth, but failed to score in seven games.
Nuno Espirito Santo reportedly wants to sign the player that the club attempted – but failed – to sign in January.
Akpom appears to be willing to leave Ajax this summer, and he has outlined the steps he will take to find a new team.
He told FC Update, “I want to be part of a squad that needs me. I don’t think I can stay on the bench as a second striker for another year. If I participate more in the games this year, I’d prefer to stay here. If that is not the case, it may be time to investigate more. “We’ll see.”
The talisman joined Ajax after playing for Middlesbrough, where Michael Carrick described Akpom as ‘outstanding’.
Akpom would only be a backup in Forest.
Given his lack of experience in the Premier League, it’s difficult to envisage Akpom arriving at Forest and commanding regular football right away.
Akpom scored 15 goals in all competitions last season despite starting only nine games, which is a respectable result for a centre-forward.
However, with Wood and Awoniyi both capable of scoring goals in the Premier League, any striker who joins the club would face a challenge.
Akpom, who is 28 years old, does not appear to be an acquisition that will excite the fanbase.
However, the fact that Forest are interested again implies that Espirito Santo loves him and believes he might get a tune out of him in the Premier League.
