Liverpool is still keeping its cards close to their chest throughout the summer transfer window.
With the international tournaments completed, the Reds will presumably have a little more leeway to operate.
However, with time running out before Liverpool embarks on a tour of the United States, they will need to act quickly to get bodies in at Anfield before they depart.
Arne Slot will continue to benefit from players returning to the AXA Training Centre after competing in either the Copa America or Euro 2024.
As he analyzes the Liverpool group, Slot may decide he has what he needs for the new season. Nevertheless, the Reds are keeping their options open in the market.
Liverpool is tracking Mohamed Simakan.
At the close of last season, it seems likely that Liverpool would sign a centre-back this summer.
With Joel Matip leaving and Ibrahima Konate’s form and fitness deteriorating, the Reds decided it was vital to strengthen their backline.
However, despite Liverpool’s considerable interest in Leny Yoro, there has been no indication that a transfer to bolster the defence is imminent.
Yoro appears to be more likely to join Real Madrid than Liverpool, with the Reds’ desire viewed as purely opportunistic.
With the 18-year-old slipping away, Liverpool will have to look elsewhere for a defensive signing if they want to make one.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are still looking into possibilities. On Monday evening’s Playback, the transfer analyst claimed that Liverpool is ‘chasing’ RB Leipzig centre-back Mohamed Simakan.
“What I can tell you is that people on the board of Liverpool have been tracking Mo Simakan and know him very well,” according to Romano. “They’ve been following the guy and believe he’s a highly talented defender.
“At the moment there are no concrete negotiations between the agents of Simakan and Liverpool or Liverpool and Leipzig, so that is the situation,” he elaborates. “But I can confirm he’s one of many centre-backs they have been tracking.”
Who is Mohammed Simakan?
Even if you’re unfamiliar with Simakan, Liverpool’s interest in him should come as no surprise.
The Reds are huge supporters of doing business with RB Leipzig. Since 2018, deals for Naby Keita, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Konate have shown this.
Any player who excels with the Red Bulls should be on Liverpool’s radar.
Simakan looks like a typical Liverpool signing. He’s 24, capable of playing both right-back and centre-back, and he’s made nearly 200 games. According to journalist Philipp Hinze, the defender might be available for roughly £38 million.
Simakan, a France U21 international, joins Leipzig in 2021 after rising through the ranks at Strasbourg. He has since established himself as a regular for the Germans, appearing 120 times over three seasons.
