Henry McStay has been confirmed as Leeds United’s head of medical following Rob Price’s departure to Derby County.

Following Rob Price’s move to Derby County, a replacement has been confirmed as head of Leeds United’s medical department. Henry McStay, who began as an academy physiotherapist in 2012, has been appointed head of medical at Thorp Arch.

The 39-year-old was a centre-back with United until 2005, but left without making a first-team appearance. He returned in a medical position seven years later and has since risen to the top of the department.

McStay is a hugely popular member of staff on the training field, and as one of the first persons to rush in when a player falls down hurt during a game, thousands of fans will recognize his face. The Northern Irishman has been a major figure in helping players recover from some of the club’s most serious injuries in recent years.

Stuart Dallas withdrew before the end of the season after two years of attempting to recover from a severe leg break in 2022. After deciding to call it quits, the utility worker praised McStay in an open letter.

McStay is a popular member of the training staff, and many of spectators will recognize his face as one of the first people to rush in when a player collapses during a game due to injury. In recent years, the Northern Irishman has played a key role in helping players recover from some of the club’s most devastating injuries.
