Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as the Reds attempt to enhance Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad during the summer window
Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in signing Slovenian international Jaka Bijol following his strong Euro 2024 performances.
The Udinese defender has many admirers after representing his country in Germany. If the Reds follow their interest, they may have to struggle for his signature.
According to Sportitalia (via Football Italia), Forest has submitted a “request for information” regarding Bijol. Inter Milan, Wolfsburg, and Stuttgart are reportedly interested in him, while Aston Villa, Bologna, Napoli, and Lazio have previously been connected.
The 25-year-old has three years remaining on his contract with Udinese, which he joined from CSKA Moscow in 2022. The Italian club is reportedly seeking at least €10 million to €15 million (£8 million to £12.5 million) for the centre-back.
Forest’s first aim for the rest of the summer transfer window is to strengthen Nuno Espirito Santo’s center defence. They lack resources in this area, and Brazilian Murillo’s future with the club remains unknown.
The Reds had already sold Moussa Niakhate to Lyon and dismissed Felipe, Scott McKenna, and Loic Mbe Soh when their contracts expired. Joe Worrall and Jonathan Panzo are also expected to leave before the window expires on August 30. Nuno now has three options: Murillo, Willy Boly, and Andrew Omobamidele, all of whom have plenty of suitors.
The Reds’ interest in Bijol comes after former Slovenia international Miran Pavlin confirmed he had taken a post at the City Ground. The 52-year-old, who has spent the last four years as the Slovenian FA’s national team director, recently told media in his native country that he will take over as Trentside’s technical director on July 15.
Forest has made four additions this summer. Goalkeeper Carlos Miguel signed from Corinthians this week, joining Eric da Silva Moreira and Elliot Anderson in Nuno’s squad, with fellow newcomer Marko Stamenic set to spend the season on loan at Olympiacos.
