Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news: Reds continue to add to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.
The move of goalkeeper Carlos Miguel from Corinthians to Nottingham Forest has been announced.
The Brazilian has become the Reds’ fourth signing of the summer transfer window, signing a four-year contract subject to a work visa. He joins Marko Stamenic, Eric da Silva Moreira, and Elliot Anderson in signing at the City Ground, while Stamenic will spend the season on loan at Olympiacos.
Forest triggered a €4million (£3.4m) release clause in Miguel’s contract to obtain the 25-year-old’s signature. He flew over from his home country last weekend for a medical and has now joined Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad as preparations for the 2024/25 Premier League season continue.
Chief football officer Ross Wilson said of the club’s latest addition: “Carlos has arrived in Nottingham full of excitement after his performances with Corinthians in Brazil. He completed all of the formalities yesterday, and we are delighted that he will join the squad so early in the preseason.”
Miguel’s transfer reunites him with former Corinthians colleague Murillo. The defender made the same transition 12 months ago and has stated that he suggested his former teammate to the Reds last winter.
“I heard a few things that Nottingham were interested and I also spoke a lot about him to the people at Nottingham,” Murillo told me earlier this year. “I chatted with my coach about a lot of things… It was while Cassio (Miguel) was still present (at Corinthians).
“I had just arrived at Forest, and we had a goalie dilemma. I advised him at the end of last year.”
When asked what he told the Reds, Murillo replied: “He’s a good goalkeeper, a reserve goalkeeper for Corinthians, but for me, he’s a great goalkeeper, he has a lot to offer, and he has room for improvement.” If I were you, I’d keep an eye on him and study him more closely.”
Miguel has spent his entire career in Brazil. He rose through the ranks at Flamengo before moving on to Internacional, where he spent time on loan with Santa Cruz and Boa Esporte.
He made only eight first-team appearances for Boa and none for Internacional. The 6ft 8in shot-stopper then joined Corinthians in 2021, but had to wait a year before making his debut for the club.
Trentside’s arrival adds to Forest’s goalkeeping overhaul. Odysseas Vlachodimos has already departed for Newcastle United, and Matt Turner may also leave after failing to impress since joining last summer.
Miguel will compete with Matz Sels for the No. 1 spot. However, the Reds could still sign another goalkeeper before the window ends on August 30.
