Leeds United have already sold one major name this summer, Archie Gray, but Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is a ‘great admirer’ of another Elland Road star and might make a £25 million bid.
Leeds had to sell one major name to alleviate financial problems earlier this month, and with no other offers on the table, 18-year-old Gray was the one to leave. He signed for Tottenham in a £40 million trade.
A move that allowed Leeds to sign Joe Rodon on a permanent basis for a fifth of the price obtained for Gray. Although Gray’s departure is disappointing, Leeds fans are mostly pleased that both Rodon and the club will profit by £30 million.
According to reports, the sale of Gray will put Leeds in a better position to make bids on other players. Plenty of names have been connected, with Brighton reportedly interested in four and even bidding £30 million for Georgio Rutter.
Newcastle will sell Miguel Almiron to fund the move for Leeds’ star.
Newcastle, like Leeds, was compelled to sell players ahead of the PSR deadline in order to comply. Yankuba Minteh moved to Brighton for £33 million, and Elliot Anderson left Newcastle for Nottingham Forest.
The Toon must sell before they can purchase, and TalkSPORT claims Howe is a ‘huge admirer’ of Leeds forward Crysencio Summerville, who won the Championship Player of the Year award last season.
According to the report, Howe is even willing to sell Paraguayan star Miguel Almiron to Saudi Arabian clubs in order to facilitate Summerville’s departure. Signing the Leeds winger is expected to cost £25 million.
Newcastle is not alone on the list of Summerville lovers.
Liverpool, Chelsea, Fulham, West Ham and Bournemouth were all suggested originally. Crystal Palace was indicated as a possible destination for Summerville if Michael Olise departed, and Olise has since joined Bayern.
Newcastle are thought to have discussed Summerville internally, and French giants PSG may make a move for him as they seek to replace Kylian Mbappe. There was a lot of attention in Summerville then.
However, nothing has materialised, and the pocket-sized attacker has been prominent in Leeds’ pre-season videos published over the previous fortnight as Farke prepares his team for next season.
