Liverpool have failed to make a signing under new head coach Arne Slot this summer, with Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, and Calvin Ramsey leaving.
Nottingham Forest defender Murillo has not ruled out joining Liverpool and believes a transfer to Anfield would be a “good opportunity” in his career.
Arne Slot has yet to make a signing since succeeding Jurgen Klopp last month, but the Reds are anticipated to be active between now and the end of the summer transfer season. Joel Matip’s contract expired in June, and the team is looking for a new centre-back.
Murillo has been linked with a move to Liverpool after impressing in his debut season for Forest following his £12.7 million move from Corinthians last August. He appeared 36 times for the East Midlands club as they maintained their Premier League status, receiving the club’s Player of the Season accolade in the process.
But, less than a year after moving to the City Ground, Murillo has already been linked with a move elsewhere, with Liverpool among his prospective suitors. And now, the Brazilian has opened up about his future plans. Murillo confessed in an honest interview with the Benja Me Mucho podcast that it had always been his intention to leave Forest and that he would be willing to move to Liverpool.
“I had the dream of playing in the Premier League and I had that thought,” he told me. “I thought, ‘I’ll go to Nottingham Forest, have a good year, and then move to a big club.'” I had that in my head.
“I’d prefer Manchester City, but given their roster, it would be more difficult for me to be a regular starter. There are two teams competing for the Premier League title: City and Arsenal. I wouldn’t rule out Liverpool either. It would be a great opportunity for me to showcase my skills in a large club.”
Elsewhere, Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool target Mats Wieffer has agreed to a £25 million transfer to Brighton. He stated that personal arrangements had been reached and that negotiations were nearing completion, with Wieffer ready to sign a long-term contract on the South Coast.
Wieffer, 24, impressed under new Reds head coach Arne Slot last season, scoring six goals and adding four assists in 42 games across all competitions. He was a member of the Feyenoord team that won the KNVB Cup and is attracting the attention of a number of clubs throughout Europe.
