Leeds United rejected a £30 million bid for Georginio Rutter from Brighton & Hove Albion on the eve of pre-season.
Leeds United have rejected Brighton & Hove Albion’s £30 million deal for Georginio Rutter. LeedsLive believes that the Seagulls’ proposal has been rejected by the Whites administration in the last 48 hours.
The weekend and beginning of this week have been occupied by talks with Tottenham Hotspur, which resulted in Archie Gray and Joe Rodon exchanging places ahead of the new season. While such discussions were ongoing, the East Sussex club tested the waters with an offer for Rutter.
Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto are among the offensive players linked with moves away from West Yorkshire this summer, but Rutter, who had 16 assists last season, has not been mentioned. Rutter remains the club’s record signing, having joined from Hoffenheim for about £35 million last year.
United’s profitability and sustainability situation was not dire before the June 30 deadline, but Brighton have challenged United’s determination in recent weeks. The offer for Rutter follows some informal inquiries about Summerville’s status, but it did not meet the club’s or the winger’s transfer requirements.
Rutter reported for preseason at Thorp Arch today, along with the vast majority of Daniel Farke’s current playing squad. The 22-year-old has four years left on his contract and is expected to play another important part for Farke in their 2025 promotion push.
With Brenden Aaronson returning to play at Elland Road next season, Farke may try Rutter in a more versatile role, like he did at Hoffenheim. Time will tell how the Germans’ strongest lineup shakes up on September 1.
