Fabrizio Romano shares intriguing late-night transfer news for Liverpool fans

The race for Riccardo Calafiori is expected to flare up following Italy’s withdrawal from the European Championship this summer.

In an intriguing transfer twist, it appears that the Bologna star may yet end up in the Premier League, despite positive talks with Serie A opponents.

Fabrizio Romano now claims on X (previously Twitter) that Arsenal and Chelsea are ‘both alert to the situation’.

It is crucial to reiterate that interest has not yet translated into bids or discussions. However, given Liverpool’s obvious need for defensive reinforcements, it’s surprising that they aren’t named as an interested party.

What is Bologna’s perspective on the situation?

Bologna is certainly leaning towards selling Calafiori to the Premier League – if necessary.

The club’s technical director stated, “I believe he will not join Juventus.” If we chose to sell him, he may be able to travel abroad.

The Italian team would, of course, want to keep one of the tournament’s standout players for the 2023/24 season.

Liverpool must sign a new center back.

Joel Matip’s departure at the end of his contract has created a visible void in the team that needs to be filled.

This could lead Richard Hughes and Co. to look for a more natural right-sided centre-back partner for Virgil van Dijk.

However, we believe it would be a tragedy if Liverpool permitted one of their competitors to sign Calafiori, a great left-sided centre-half.
