The latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as owner Evangelos Marinakis has reportedly made an offer for a Leicester City target.
Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Nottingham Forest, could be the reason East Midlands rivals Leicester City fail to recruit a long-term target as Steve Cooper’s first signing.
Forest have watched as their former manager, who gained promotion to the Premier League and then survived before being fired, made the short trip down the M1 to take over the vacant manager’s position at Leicester. With threats of fines over financial compliance and a balancing act on a budget to guarantee survival, the task already appears onerous, but Marinakis might make matters worse if the new information from Portugal is to be believed.
This is because, according to O Jogo and Record, the club’s owner has made a bid of €12 million upfront plus €3 million in add-ons (£12.6 million total) to recruit FC Porto defender David Carmo.
Portuguese media reported two weeks ago that the Foxes, Forest, and Wolves were set to compete for the 24-year-old’s signature. Marinakis, on the other hand, has gotten ahead of Cooper, but with a twist.
The industrialist has made a proposal for Olympiacos, the other club in which he has a majority ownership, rather than for Forest. Carmo spent the second half of last season on loan with the UEFA Europa Conference League champions, playing every minute of the knockout stages.
It thought that they would not make the move permanent after declining their €17.5 million (£14.8 million) purchase option included in the loan, but the Greek club has now startled their English rivals with a bid that falls inside their budget.
