Leeds United player ‘certainly’ won’t play in the Championship next season; can depart for £2.5 million

Siamo La Roma reports that Diego Llorente will “certainly” not play for Leeds United in the Championship next season.

According to the Italian news outlet’s website (27 June), the defender has no desire to return to Elland Road, and the Whites want to permanently relocate him this summer.

The Spain international is valued at roughly £2.5 million, and Roma is preparing a three-year contract for him if they decide to go forward with the permanent move for the 30-year-old.

Diego Llorente will depart Leeds United.

In one of the most predictable pieces of news of the summer, Llorente will not be a Leeds player by the time the transfer market shuts.

After signing a new deal, he was promptly permitted to leave on loan and has since become a crucial part of Roma’s defence.

However, his game was never really suited to the Premier League or English football, and given his salaries, leaving always felt like the most obvious option for everyone concerned.

Leeds still want to get some money back for him to help with their budget, but Daniel Farke will not have planned for him to be in the team, and this news will come as a surprise to no one.

Llorente’s time in England was a flop, and it’s better for everyone at this stage if he leaves permanently so that everyone can get on with their lives.
