Ibrahim Sangare is Nottingham Forest’s record signing, however his debut season did not go as expected.
The player signed for PSV for £30 million on transfer deadline day, shortly after Forest decided to trade Brennan Johnson to Tottenham.
Sangare made just 17 appearances for the club, six of which came in 2024.
Still, a variety of issues impeded Sangare’s efforts to prove to the Forest fan base that he was worth the money.
He returned from the African Cup of Nations in February after catching malaria, which caused him to lose weight and become unfit to play.
Sangare also had some nagging ailments to deal with, so he wasn’t always at full strength for Forest.
Now, a report has been produced that indicates how people feel about Sangare behind the scenes at City Ground.
The report explains how Nottingham Forest feel about Ibrahim Sangare.
Forest does not appear to be ready to give up on Sangare just yet.
According to The Athletic, Galatasary has expressed interest in the Reds, but the record signing in Turkey is only £17 million, and a price much greater than that would be required to tempt Forest.
Forest is also said to be reluctant to sell.
Behind the scenes, there is hope that Sangare will be able to perform well in the future after a solid pre-season and a run of games.
Sangare, at 26 years old, has some time on his side, and it appears that Forest will be backing their record signing this summer.
Sangare needs support and encouragement, not criticism from the stands.
Forest fans are typically devoted and give every player an opportunity to shine.
However, by booing Sangare during the first half of a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, they failed to honour their record signing.
Okay, he didn’t play well, but since Forest’s return to the Premier League, others have performed worse and have not received similar punishment.
Sangare did not choose to spend £30 million, and that should not be used against him.
Perhaps there is an argument that he should do more when called upon, but as a defensive midfielder, he will not be taking on six players and scoring screamers every week.
His statistics are really remarkable. He averages 3.65 tackles per 90 minutes, placing him in the top 2% of midfielders in Europe’s main five leagues.
Forest appear to have made their decision on Sangare, and it is now up to the supporters to support him rather than criticize him!
