Leeds United will have to wait a bit longer for a decision on Max Wober’s future following Austria’s 3-2 victory over the Netherlands.
Wober’s team ended their group stage campaign as victors following a very outstanding performance on Tuesday evening, despite competing with France and Poland.
Following a horrific individual start to the tournament for Wober in a 1-0 loss to France, Austria recovered with back-to-back victories against Poland and the Netherlands to advance to the next round.
Wober announced last week that he will not make a decision about his future with Leeds until after the EUROs.
And it appears he will be there for a while, with Austria one of the most impressive teams in the competition thus far, as well as on the other side of the draw to Spain, Germany, Portugal, and France.
Austrian media announces verdict on Wober display.
As previously said, Wober did not have a fantastic outing in his previous start in the EUROs, as his’very awful’ own goal gave France a 1-0 victory.
He was then dropped to the bench and an unused substitute in Poland’s 3-1 triumph, but was reinstated in the starting lineup at centre-back against the Netherlands.
Wober was entrusted with marking some talented front-line players, including Memphis Depay, Xavi Simons, and Cody Gakpo.
And, despite conceding twice, Austria’s triumph and top spot in Group B were well worth it.
In a post-match player ratings feature, Austrian source Salzburger Nachrichten praised Wober’s character for overcoming his difficulties against France.
They wrote, “Maximilian Wöber.” Has put away the tough first game against France, including his own goal. A really nice performance, with good passports and powerful rescue efforts. “Very strong.”
Graeme Bailey suggests Daniel Farke may welcome back Wober.
As Wober has stated, Leeds will make a decision on his future after he returns from the Euros.
After the decision to reintegrate Brenden Aaronson, nothing is off the table for either his or Rasmus Kristensen’s future, and Graeme Bailey tells LeedsUnited.News that Daniel Farke is definitely considering bringing one or both back.
He stated, “It is something Farke is considering. I believe that many of the decisions will be made by the players themselves. There is a good probability that one or both will stay, depending on how Leeds’ other business goes.
“As I previously stated, I had heard that Aaronson could return, and that is now occurring. Wober, there is interest elsewhere, so we’ll see how it plays out; there’s also a good chance he’ll return.
“If Kristensen and Wober can join Leeds, the club will be in a strong situation. “I wouldn’t rule it out under any circumstances.”
