All four Liverpool players have already made their debuts at the Copa America in the United States.
While the focus in Europe is on Euro 2024, the American comparable tournament is currently in full swing.
While Liverpool players have had mixed results in Germany, they have had more luck in the United States.
After four games, the Reds’ South American quintet is unbeaten. Alexis MacAllister contributed an assist, Darwin Nunez scored – albeit the Uruguayan press was divided – and Luis Diaz took the lead on Monday.
Diaz and Colombia had been in excellent form entering the tournament. That’s exactly what happened on Monday evening in Houston.
Colombian media raves about Luis Diaz’s presentation.
Diaz has received a lot of attention in the lead-up to the start of the Copa America. It is still possible that the 27-year-old will leave Anfield this summer.
With Barcelona circling Diaz, it’s unclear whether he’ll be part of Liverpool’s squad next season.
Meanwhile, the Colombian remains very much a Red. And given what Diaz performed against Paraguay, this is wonderful news for Liverpool fans.
He may not have scored in Los Cafeteros’ 2-1 victory, but according to Colombian outlet El Espectador, Liverpool’s No.7 was nonetheless a true star of the match.
They claim Diaz was ‘one of the most outstanding players’ for Nestor Lozano’s team that night.
El Espectador describes him as ‘hard to manage,’ highlighting one particular moment that ‘amazed fans’ at the NRG Stadium.
When cornered by two Paraguayan players at the corner flag, Diaz used incredible quick feet to escape out of the predicament and transfer the ball to a teammate.
It was a magnificent bit of ability from Diaz, and it is thought to have represented his entire performance. Although the Paraguayan defenders allegedly ‘tried to contain him with blows and kicks,’ the Liverpool player could not be restrained.
Latest on the Luis Diaz transfer discussion
With Liverpool allegedly looking for a new attacker, Diaz appears to be the most probable player to depart the club this summer.
Barcelona is certainly interested in the former Porto player, but given their financial woes, Liverpool may not be too concerned.
They’ll also be encouraged by Diaz’s recent statements on the subject. It appears that he is not particularly eager to leave Anfield.
However, the Reds are still associated with talents such as Nico Williams. If someone like Williams enters the picture, Diaz’s position on the squad may be jeopardized.
If the flying winger can continue to produce such high-quality performances while on international duty, Liverpool would be unwise to let him go.
Lucho has had a wonderful start to the summer; let’s hope he can start affecting the scoresheet next time.
