A Liverpool player completely outclassed Declan Rice.
England’s start to the European Championships in Germany has been poor, and as a result, criticism has been directed at a number of squad members.
Despite opening the scoring, Harry Kane’s effort against Denmark has received a lot of attention.
Another Three Lions player has been heavily criticised, but Rice has defended him in a loving monologue.
Declan Rice praised Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold as one of the best players he’s ever seen.
“It’s funny because people were calling for Trent to play in midfield,” the Arsenal midfielder told ITV.
“Half the country wants Trent to play in midfield. You play him in middle and then try to bring him down. I don’t understand it. I don’t understand it at all.
“I will protect all of my boys until the day I never wear an England shirt. Trent is one of the most talented players I have ever seen. Don’t call for someone to play a position just to backtrack later because you think he had a horrible game or anything.
“I’ll tell you right now: Trent can play in midfield. I’ve seen it at England and Liverpool. “He is unbelievable.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold excels in an inverted role.
While Alexander-Arnold possesses the characteristics necessary to play at number eight, it does not appear to be his strongest position.
Playing as an inverted right-back has appeared to be his finest role, so Gareth Southgate should drop him back but give him the freedom to drive forward into attacking areas, where he can produce pinpoint passes and crosses.
England plays Slovenia in the last group game on Tuesday evening.
