‘Abnormal’: Daniel Sturridge blows away by what £47 million alleged Liverpool target did at Euro 2024 yesterday

Liverpool has an excellent opportunity to make some prospective acquisitions this summer.

Although it is never a good idea to buy a player only on the basis of an international competition, they can serve to validate previously held beliefs.

With the current state of football recruitment, clubs are already aware of players before they make their international debut.

Liverpool are among the finest in the business at identifying market value. FSG has scouts everywhere, and it’s rare for them to be startled by a previously unknown skill.

But every now and again, one of those on their radar breaks through and becomes impossible to ignore. As former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has found, one player has already done so at Euro 2024.

Daniel Sturridge raves about Nico Williams.

Liverpool are apparently looking for a forward this summer. Arne Slot is eager to add more weaponry to his attack.

With that said, Liverpool has a lot of talent to keep an eye on in Euro 2024.

There are plenty of players that would fit what the Reds are seeking for, including Georgia’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Germany’s Florian Wirtz.

Another player apparently on Liverpool’s radar is Spain forward Nico Williams. The 21-year-old has been excelling at Athletic Bilbao for a few years now.

With suggestions that Williams could be on the move this summer, his performances for Spain will be of particular interest to Liverpool.

And, according to Sturridge, Inaki Williams’ younger brother has been outstanding. Taking to X to discuss the youngster’s performance against Italy on Thursday, the former Liverpool player admits to being blown away.

“Lamine Yamal is top class and Nico Williams is doing bits!” Sturridge raved.

“These two players are out of the ordinary for Spanish wingers. Speed, skill, and direction! Spain has a promising future with these two.”

    Can Liverpool sign Nico Williams?

There is little doubt that Williams has been on Liverpool’s radar. The initial reports that the Reds have been watching Williams date back two years.

However, it is unclear whether they will be able to bring him into the club.

There appear to be two problems with Williams’ arrival at Anfield. The first is that the Basque people apparently want to stay in Spain.

The second, as journalist Graeme Bailey exclusively informed Rousing The Kop last month, is that Williams is seeking exorbitant compensation to quit Athletic. Liverpool appear to have been put off.

Given how well he has performed in Germany thus far, some may support paying his rumored £47 million release clause and giving Williams what he wants. However, we’re not convinced Liverpool will feel the same way.
