Former Reds manager Steve Cooper is back in management after signing a three-year deal with Forest’s Premier League rivals Leicester City.
Steve Cooper’s decision to rejoin Leicester City has generated heated debate among Nottingham Forest fans.
The 44-year-old spent two seasons at the City Ground, helping the Reds climb out of the Championship and into the Premier League at the first attempt.
After a rocky start to his first top-flight campaign in 24 years, he steadied the squad and guided it to safety before succumbing to Evangelos Marinakis’ axe midway through last season.
However, he’s back in the game having signed a three-year contract at the King Power Stadium – a move that has not gone unnoticed Trentside. Here’s a selection of views from Forest fans.
@Puds1970 : To those #nffc fans who will be pointing out that SC is being complimentary towards his new employer – what do they expect? He was hardly going to turn up in a Forest tracksuit, singing Steevie Cooper. I bet most of them wanted him gone anyway.
@hannahforest: We couldn’t expect Cooper to never work again. Just why Leicester? Still, could be worse. He could have gone to Derby and got them promoted. He now likely to relegate Leicester.
@AdamEdw: Seems likely #LCFC will need a miracle next season. Steve Cooper’s already created two at #NFFC, so maybe he’s their best chance. Whatever, no animosity from me. He did incredible things at the City Ground and deserves another shot at the PL. He’ll get a clap from me.
@LeeBatten4: Will always love Cooper and wish him all the best. I hope he is successful, I hope he keeps them up and I hope he finishes below us. I’ll always be grateful to him for that day at Wembley, that promotion season and keeping us up following promotion.
@NickKehoe78: Good luck to Steve Cooper at Leicester, even though they are a local rival. We should never have sacked him in the first place and I hope that decision doesn’t come back to haunt us.
@GarethJD : My view on Cooper at Leicester. Good luck to him. He’ll always be a hero for what he did for us. It’ll be tough for him there with a points deduction and financial issues. It was absolutely the right decision for us to part ways when we did & IMO we did upgrade when we did
@shaunwest84: Can’t understand people wishing cooper well at Leicester, did a great job to get us promoted and will be forever grateful, but he absolutely stunk the premier league out with his anti-football. No rivalry to most however awful choice by somebody “who loves the city”
@MCBigGuy88 : I’m happy for Cooper he did alot for us more than anyone else in 20+ years I hope he does a good job at Leicester all the best.
@DarthSpaceVader: All the best at #LCFC Steve Cooper, good job for him! As always I hope we beat every team we play but he’ll certainly get a good reception from me
@P_M_73: Is there a way Steve Cooper can succeed while #LCFC don’t?
@ForestNH0583: Sad but wish Steve Cooper all the best! Although it’s a bit like an ex going out with an old enemy #nffc Hope we get 6 points out of them or it’ll be a tougher pill to swallow
@TrentBridge1: #NFFC might be worth remembering that we sacked Cooper and he is entitled to go work where he chooses.
@stats1865 : People getting twisted about Cooper going to Leicester need a day off. It’s the euros, have a beer and chill out. We sacked him, he didn’t leave.
