Leeds United may have been received a boost in their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon.
Rodon is regarded to be Leeds’ top priority at this point in the window, but newly promoted clubs Ipswich Town, Leicester City, and Southampton have also been linked with the deal.
Leeds are likely to do all possible to win the race for Rodon, but the reality of returning to the Championship will make things more difficult financially.
Leeds might offer a loan with a future buy option after his Spurs contract was extended for another year, but the North London club may prefer a permanent sell.
Of all the Premier League clubs linked, Ipswich look to have the biggest interest, with manager Kieran McKenna allegedly a big fan of the Welshman.
Ipswich might give Leeds a boost in Rodon race.
Given how long Leeds battled Ipswich for promotion last season, losing Rodon to them would be a huge blow.
Finally, it would demonstrate the stark financial differences that come with being in the Premier League.
However, according to a recent report from the Daily Telegraph, Ipswich may be about to give Leeds an advantage in their chase of their former loan star.
According to reports, the Tractor Boys have made Hull City centre-back Jacob Greaves their main priority this summer, perhaps diverting their attention away from Rodon.
It’s unclear how much Greaves could cost this summer, although Hull are eager to keep him. Not only that, but he’s still only 23, and being English usually raises the price.
While Ipswich is looking elsewhere, Leeds must do all possible to expedite Rodon’s transfer. Hopefully he will want to come.
Leeds’ interest in Rodon could be based on player wishes.
As previously said, Leeds’ ability to sign Rodon this summer may be largely influenced by his preferences.
Rodon expressed his satisfaction with Elland Road near the end of the season, but considering his age, he may now wish to put his skills to the test in the Premier League.
However, the best way to accomplish this would be to return to Leeds, help them get promoted, and then adjust to the league in a team he is familiar with.
However, if Premier League funds arrive, Leeds may have little choice but to accept.
