Nottingham Forest did not receive much return for their efforts in the loan market last season, with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Milan players joining on short-term contracts.
A transfer frenzy has already broken out around Nottingham Forest, with hundreds of names connected with a move to the City Ground – but just one appears to be somewhat confident in the knowledge that he will be donning Garibaldi Red next season.
Carlos Miguel, a Brazilian goalkeeper, is scheduled to get a medical this week and will become the club’s next attempt to fill the Brice Samba-sized hole. At 6ft 8ins and for a comparatively low cost of roughly £4 million, the 25-year-old seemed to have a chance, at least based on reviews in his own country.
Other positions are being discussed, including centre backs, full backs, strikers, midfielders, and nearly every other position, as the Premier League’s most aggressive recruiters in recent years have sparked suspicion.
However, it appears like none of last season’s loan players will return to the club, with only a half-dozen of those that joined making a significant impact. This summer, it appears that they are ready for a new adventure.
Gonzalo Montiel
The right back moved from Sevilla last summer but only played 14 Premier League games, and while he came with a buy option, it appears that it will not be activated. He is presently representing Argentina in the Copa America. There aren’t many rumors concerning his future right now, but he has five years left on his contract and will undoubtedly be aware that the coach who signed him for Sevilla, Julen Lopetegui, is now in charge of West Ham.
Andrey Santos
Made virtually no impact on a loan from Chelsea that was scheduled to last the entire season but ended in January. Santos played only two games for Forest before returning to Stamford Bridge and was swiftly sent to Strasbourg, where he started nine of 13 Ligue 1 games.
with the start of the summer, it appeared like he would return to Chelsea for a shot with the first team, but The Athletic are saying that he might be sent back to Strasbourg but may ‘require convincing’.
Nuno Tavares
Joined from Arsenal for the 23/24 season, with a £12 million option to buy. However, he, too, made little effect, making only five Premier League starts and 12 total games. Forest revealed at the end of the season that he would be returning to Arsenal, where he has only one year remaining on his contract.
Divock Origi
The 29-year-old joined during the January transfer window and saw some regular game action. Chris Wood’s one goal in 22 appearances was insufficient to alleviate his goal-scoring burden, and his stay at the City Ground was far from successful.
He returns to Milan with two years left on his contract, and reports in the Italian press suggest that he is likely to leave and is ‘not meant to remain for long’ under new manager Paulo Fonseca. It’s even possible that his contract will be paid in full.
Gio Reyna
Forest did not have the opportunity to buy Gio Reyna, who joined on loan from Borussia Dortmund during the winter transfer window. Again, he struggled to make an impression. He is now with the USA at the Copa America and is highly appreciated by head coach Gregg Berhalter.
However, his future is uncertain, despite the fact that he signed a new contract with Dortmund prior to joining Forest. He recently said, “I’m really focused on the national team right now.” There have been negotiations, and I’m not sure what will happen. I just want to go to the highest level possible while still playing a vital role, getting consistent minutes, and being an important player for any team, whether it’s Dortmund or elsewhere. I’m just searching for the proper match for me, a high-level playing environment, and a club that values me.”
Rodrigo Ribeiro
The 19-year-old signed from Sporting but never made an impact at Forest. The Reds have not exercised their option to buy, so he returns to the Portuguese capital to try to force his way into the picture there.
