Nottingham Forest are likely to add another player to their roster, joining goalkeeper Carlos Miguel.
The 6ft 7in stopper is scheduled to visit Forest for talks after a £3.4 million release clause was reached over the weekend.
Miguel played for Corinthians yesterday and received some appreciation from the Brazilian media for his strong performance.
Forest appear to be ratcheting up their efforts to sign new players, with a new midfielder expected to arrive at the City Ground.
Forest will sign Marko Stamenic.
According to The Athletic, Forest are about to finalize a deal to recruit Marko Stamenic, but he will not be coming straight to the City Ground.
Following Forest’s £4.6 million transfer, the Red Star Belgrade player is expected to join Olympiacos on a season-long loan.
Stamenic had been linked with a move to Coventry in recent weeks, but Forest appear to have stolen a march on them.
The player will now sign with Forest before moving to Greece to join the UEFA Conference League winners.
Stamenic is primarily a holding midfielder, but he has the ability to go more forward, as demonstrated during the 2023/24 season.
In 35 appearances for Red Star last season, he scored twice, assisted once, and had seven cautions.
Who is Marko Stamenic?
The 22-year-old is a New Zealand international who, like Forest striker Chris Wood, has made 15 appearances for the national team.
Stamenic began his career playing lower-league football in New Zealand until being signed by FC Copenhagen in 2020.
He progressed through the ranks in Denmark and spent time on loan with Danish club HB Koge.
Red Star Belgrade signed him in July 2023 after Copenhagen declined to extend his contract.
Forest-linked Stamenic made only 23 appearances for the Danish giants before moving on to Red Star, where he has 35.
Forest must now focus on its own signings.
It’s only natural that Forest and Olympiacos will continue to execute deals like this in the future.
Evangelos Marinakis definitely sees value in Forest purchasing players and loaning them out to Olympiacos.
However, the club does not want to be involved in too many of these deals, and the fan base will now expect Forest to handle their own affairs.
Miguel appears to be a good signing, while Stamenic, in all honesty, appears to be a guy who has the potential to improve.
Coventry appears to have come close to signing the Kiwi in recent weeks, indicating that he is a sought-after talent.
Stamenic will be able to play in a decent league in Greece before returning to Forest, where he will have to prove his ability to play in the Premier League.
