For Nottingham Forest, some clarification could be just a few days away.
After all, this is a ‘critical week’ in the Premier League giant’s career. And by next Monday, we may finally know whether the Nottingham Forest target will play at the City Ground in 2024/25.
Since returning to the Premier League two years ago, Forest has had no fewer than five goalkeepers who could claim to be the club’s number one, at least for a brief time. Dean Henderson arrived first, followed by Keylor Navas, who came on loan from PSG. Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos came and went from the starting eleven.
And, while Matz Sels, who joined in January, helped Forest avoid relegation, the 32-year-old does not appear to be a long-term option.
Nottingham Forest hopes to sign Carlos Miguel.
Is Carlos Miguel, seven years Sels’ junior, the man to bring an end to Nottingham Forest’s shifting ensemble of shot-stoppers? According to UOL, Miguel has accepted the City Ground’s offer.
There is still work to be done, though. The Corinthians goalkeeper’s release clause has dropped from £42 million to just £3.5 million since the turn of the year, much to the chagrin of the club’s management and fans, who have labeled him something of a villain in all of this.
Fabinho Soldado, Corinthians’ football boss, believes Miguel can yet be convinced to stay and sign a new contract. Whether or not he does, we should have some answers before the end of the week.
“We offered a contract renewal for Carlos. We were always interested in having him stay. “This week is critical for understanding how this will be resolved,” Soldado tells UOL and Meu Timao.
The CEO does reveal, however, that a list of potential successors has already been prepared in case Miguel decides to join his former Corinthians teammate Murillo in Nottingham.
“We receive several names every day,” Soldado continues. “Of course, we have certain names planned out, and some names in the conversation. I hope to be able to share the news as soon as possible and address the goalie dilemma.”
Corinthians preparing for goalkeeper’s departure.
Corinthians President Augusto Melo shares Soldado’s sentiments.
“We submitted a renewal bid. We are already working in this direction, and we don’t want to lose him. Unfortunately, the way this deal was drafted terrifies us,” Melo remarked, taking aim at Miguel’s camp after his release clause was reduced by £39 million overnight.
“We are already speaking with other goalkeepers, and a scout (report) is being conducted.
“We don’t want anyone in here who don’t want to stay. Everybody has the right to depart. We’re looking for people who want to stay and play for Corinthians.
“We received information from Carlos Miguel. We discussed the renewal, waited, and were told that everything would be fine. There was little to do.
“Why was there a 50 million euro clause till December 31st and a 4 million euro clause starting January 1st? We are hostages. There’s nothing we can do. If the player and agent do not choose to renew.
“Yes, there is discussion, sounds that they are going to pay the clause and he will depart. “(But) he is training; he is a Corinthians player.”
Carlos Miguel, at 6 feet 8 inches, would become one of the tallest footballers in Premier League history.
